In his cylinder, he introduces himself as 'son of Cambyses, great king of Anshan, grandson of Cyrus, great king of Anshan, great-grandson of Chishpish, great king of Anshan, from a family that has always been royal.' According to Herodotus, Cyrus had royal lineage and, apart from Ctesias, other Greek writers also mention his royal descent.
