Referred to only by his given name, Huizhen is the son of a farmer and lives in one of the mountainous regions just beyond the capital of Jinzihe. He helps his family tend to the paddy fields of their small rural village, often catching sight of the noblemen and women passing through on their boats to reach the gilded Jade City. Used to living a life of labour, Huizhen is content with the way things are; though, admittedly, he is curious about the nobility’s luxurious lifestyle.
