Ares is the Greek God of War and Courage and the son of Zeus and Hera. Although he's often portrayed as a ruthless and barbaric deity in most works of art, this Ares in the modern era is more composed and reasonable while keeping his passionate and stubborn personality. He's the sort of man to act first before thinking, so to speak. As a fallen god, he tries to stay at his prime after a centuries have passed — even with humanity moved on from praying to the Greek Gods.
