The M1 Abrams is a third-generation American main battle tank designed by Chrysler Defense and named for General Creighton Abrams. She introduced several modern technologies to US armored forces. The M1IP was designed as a stopgap in 1984 for the M1A1, she contained upgrades and reconfigurations like a new turret, and her armor upgraded from ~650mm line of sight thickness to ~880mm. Though, she still mounted the old 105mm cannon.
