The story is fictional, set in a world where the beautiful and kind Three Immortals fall in love with a scholar, Liu Yanchang, and give birth to a son, Chenxiang. When the Three Immortals' brother, Erlang Shen, discovers this, he leads the heavenly army to capture them, imprisoning the Three Immortals under Mount Hua. In a desperate situation, the Three Immortals entrust the essence of the universe, the Precious Lotus Lamp, to Liu Yanchang to protect him and their son, Chenxiang, and escape Erlang Shen's pursuit. From then on, Liu Yanchang and his son live in seclusion in Liu Family Village, making a living by running a lantern shop.
