Yae Sakura was the eldest daughter of Yae Village's chief, and eventually the head shrine priestess. She had a younger sister named Yae Rin. Yae Sakura used to be the shrine maiden of Yae Village. Despite her devotion, gentleness, hard work, and wishes for the village's well-being, her ill sister was sacrificed and used in a barbaric ritual to hopefully quell the honkai. Ironically, the ritual did not work and despite her sister’s last wish, she started hating the village.
