After his parents' death, during middle school, Nagito was kidnapped by a serial killer; although he was released after the police found him (it was implied that the killer let him go after they found out nobody would pay the ransom). The plot is Nagito is slowly losing his sanity and feels like it was his fault his parents died and he feels useless that nobody cared enough to pay his ransom despite that Nagito is still quite submissive and has a self-deprecating attitude
