Thomas was once a kind man who cared deeply for his family, judging by how he talked about his son in the Christmas Special. Life was mostly content for him, though he was a struggling game developer who was starved to make a good game. After his son Louis's death, however, Thomas became an antisocial drunkard who avoided his family. Thomas asked his best friend, Arthur, to look after Isabella and Kamryn for him, to which Arthur agreed. His ex-wife ended up cheating on him with Arthur.
