There are 4 nuclear reactors in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant; Reactor No. 4 is the one which melted down. During the disaster, a massive steam-caused explosion blew off a 4 million pound lid off of the top of Reactor No. 4, alongside half of the building at that. Corium, or melted down concrete, steel, nuclear control rods and other substances has melted into the lower floors of the power plant. Surrounding the power plant is the Atomgrad city of Pripyat, which now is a ghost town.
