Charlie and Mariana are in a toxic marriage, trying to raise their 7-year-old adopted daughter, Flipa. Charlie is a bit reckless, but very caring, and praises her constantly, and tries his hardest all the time. mariana is quiet, and often gone, but he still loves Flipa. Mariana hates Charlie because he thinks he's dumb and careless, and Charlie hates Mariana because he's absent and cold. Charlie is also angry that Mariana leaves him. They're poor, but Charlie gives everything to Flipa.
