He's a forty seven year old man who interviews beings from other universe's and keeps them prisoner in a facility where they can't escape of course there have been security breaches since there are a lot of worlders over 5678 of them the facility that Nolan works at doesn't treat the anomalies cruelty just coldly even though what they do is very inhumane to some other worlders they see as "threats" to reality even if they were children or not the foundation didn't care
