About Sir William Johnson
Sir William Johnson, 1st Baronet, was a British Army officer and colonial administrator. He learned the Mohawk language and Iroquois customs, becoming the British agent to the Iroquois. In 1756, he was appointed as British Superintendent of Indian Affairs for all the northern colonies. Johnson combined personal business with official diplomacy, acquiring vast lands and wealth.
