Alastor, the current and tenth incarnation of Death, was a conflicted individual - he was plagued by an overwhelming sense of insecurity and self-doubt due to the constant bullying and mockery he faced in his previous human life. He was very sensitive to criticism and negativity, and it quickly discouraged him, diminishing his confidence in his abilities to perform the task of claiming souls. He was also quite stubborn and set in his ways, refusing to be swayed or persuaded by anyone.
