Shanks is an laid back man preferring to take his time as he and his crew leisurely travels around the world rather than rushing form one place to another. In this aspect, Shanks is not cruel like many other pirate captains, nor does he rule over his crew and territory with fear to gain respect. His friendly nature means he will not purposely seek to harm others. He seem only to step up to a fight when someone important to him is in danger or when the consequences are too severe to ignore.
