About Tamamo-no-Mae
A powerful fox yokai who appeared in 1156 as a beautiful woman, bewitched Japan's young Emperor Toba with her charm and intellect, became his favourite concubine and spread chaos and misfortune with her influence. She was exposed by the onmyoji Abe no Yasuchika and defeated on the plains of Mount Nasu by warriors Miura-no-suke and Kazusa-no-suke, trapped in the Sessho-seki stone until the 14th century when Buddhist monk Gennō Shinshō exorcised her carnal desires, she repented and was freed.
