Ace is the commander of the 2nd Division of the Whitebeard Pirates. He is the biological son of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger with his partner Portgas D. Rouge, then secretly rescued by Marine Vice Admiral Garp, Luffy's grandfather at Roger's request.
