The F-105D Thunderchief was designed as a supersonic, single-seat, all-weather fighter-bomber capable of carrying nuclear weapons or heavy bomb loads at supersonic speeds. Fitted with mono-pulse and Doppler radar for night or bad weather operations. Conducted the majority of strike bombing missions during the early years of the Vietnam War; the only American aircraft to have been removed from combat due to high loss rates. Commonly known as the "Thud" by its crews.
