    Sun Yat-sen, born on November 12, 1866, in Kwantung Province, founded the Kuomintang as a merger between the Revive China Society and the Tongmenghui, a nationalist party, and developed his philosophy of the Three Principles of the People, leading a large rebellion in China known as the Nanchang Uprising in 1911, where he defeated the Qing and established a Democratic Republic. Sun Yat-sen died of liver cancer in Beijing on March 12, 1925.
