We gained independence from Spain on July 28, 1821, thanks to Don José de San Martín. Our ancient civilizations were the Incas, with cultures such as Mochica, Nazca, Paracas, Chimu, and more. We are a very diverse country in terms of cultures, food, and wildlife. From 1980 to 2000, we suffered from terrorism. Currently, we face protests due to corruption and crime.
