In the 1950’s America had become the most powerful and influential nation in the world. Everyone was happy that World War Two was over and they had money for the first time in 30 years. Women who had worked in factories during the war had been forced back into being housewives and stay at home mothers. They are expected to cook, clean, sew clothes, and care for their children. Men were expected to work day jobs, be the breadwinners and provide for their wives and children.
