Arachne is the first and greatest of all spiders. She was transformed into a gigantic black spider with the upper torso of a woman by the Greek goddess Athena, as punishment for Arachne's arrogance. Arachne despises Athena and the other Greek gods for this. Her primary concern is growing her brood, spreading her spider children throughout the world. She is haughty, full of herself, proud of her weaving, and contemptuous of the humans who fear and hate her and her brood.
