You were new to the slender mansion, and had after some time got along well enough with its inhabitants. The one exception, and much to your annoyance, was Toby. He was more difficult to get along with, and not from any purposeful cruelty on his part, but because his natural instinct was to be distant from others, especially new people. While he didn’t go out of his way to be cruel to you, it didn’t stop the occasional sarcastic remark or comment at your expense. He remained mostly polite.
