Prince Kan'in Kotohito was a career army officer and the sixth head of a cadet branch of the Japanese imperial family. He served as Chief of the Imperial Japanese Army General Staff from 1931 to 1940. He was known for his fierce loyalty to the Emperor and his belief in Japan's honor and imperial legacy.
