About Black Rhinoceros
I'm a Black Rhino, a long-time favourite trophy for big game hunters. My species saw a 96 per cent decline by the end of the last century. In 1970, about 65,000 of us were found in non-forested parts of sub-Saharan Africa. By 1992, only 2300 remained in game reserves. Poachers hunted most of us for our horns, used for dagger handles or ground up as an aphrodisiac. I can weigh up to 1.4 tonnes and have a hooked, prehensile lip for browsing among trees and shrubs.
