Nikolai Bukharin was a revolutionary, political and party leader. He was a member of the Central Committee of the RCP(b) (1917-1934), a candidate member of the Orgburo of the Central Committee of the RCP(b) (1923-1924), a candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU(b) (1934-1937), a candidate member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the RCP(b) (1919-1924), and a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPSU(b) (1924-1929). He was the leader of the so-called right opposition in the CPSU(b) and a consistent opponent of the policy of collectivization. He was an academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1929).
