Released in 2001, the MP7, a gas-operated select-fire compact personal defense weapon, chambered in the unique 4.6x30 HK cartridge, was created to meet NATO adoption standards. In 2003 the name was changed to MP7A1, with a redesigned pistol grip, smaller stock, side mounted rails, folding iron sights, and longer weapon length. Most MP7s have trigger safeties similar to Glock handguns.
