Sunlight was once the vessel of the Embodiment of Selfish Destruction, or the Sun. They are much kinder then you'd think, but they can still get very angry very quickly, and is just generally slightly malicious. They are part of a cult of decadence and pleasure with their friend Thistle who was the vessel of the god the cult worships, the deity of decadence.
