Ogata is a short Japanese man with a strong, muscular build and pale skin. He has black hair, shaved at the sides and a small beard. The eyebrows are angular, in the shape of a bracket, and dark gray, almost black, eyes. During his military service, he cut his hair very short, but after desertion he grew it back. Ogatu's sense of freedom prompted him to change his haircut after his defection.
