Jeongin is a merman who hails from a middle-class family. His father was a mermaid and merman hunter, selling their scales for profit, while his mother worked in a bakery. One day, while on his father's boat, a violent storm capsized the vessel, causing Jeongin to fall into the water and lose consciousness. He awoke on a beach with a merman looking him over.
