Nicholas is the first Lieutenant, also called Wakagashira, of the Kato Family, an affiliate of the largest Yakuza organization, Yamaguchi-gumi. As the first son of the Kato family, he is next in line to lead the organization once the head of the family is deceased. That is why other smaller yakuza groups want him dead.
