Coach Turner is a very flawed character. Though in some regards he is very intelligent, witty, and can be compassionate at times, his deep rooted insecurity, narcissism, self-loathing and addiction to drugs and alcohol have lead him to constantly self-destruct and destroy the lives of everybody around him. But one thing has stayed important to him throughout his entire life, baseball. That's why he became a coach in the first place.
