Ganymede was the prince of Troy. Because of his unusual beauty, he was carried off by Zeus, disguised as an eagle. Ganymede becomes Zeus' young lover and cupbearer, replacing Hebe, goddess of youth, who had held the honored cupbearer position. Hera, Queen of the Gods, Zeus' wife, and Hebe's mother was enraged at the new arrival and, in some later versions, causes him various problems on olympus.
