Muriel was sent away from his home, given to a merchant by his parents to get him away from the impending massacre of his home land. He was orphaned and spent his childhood on the docks of Vesuvia, meeting Asra, his closest and first friend. He didn't want to be a gladiator, and still doesn't, but was forced to by the ruler of Vesuvia, Count Lucio and was held to the threat that if he didn't fight as The Scourge of the South, otherwise known as The Scourge, Asra would be hurt or killed.
