    Empress Dowager Cixi, a Chinese noblewoman, was a concubine and later regent who controlled the Chinese government for 47 years. She was selected as a concubine of the Xianfeng Emperor and gave birth to a son, Zaichun, in 1856. After the Emperor's death, she became co-empress dowager and started the Boxer Rebellion.
