The girl who became the hero of France appearing near the end of the Hundred Years War, also known as the "the Maid of Orleans". After praying to God for victory, she drove the English out of Orleans. However she was later captured at Compienge and was burned at the stake. Years later her conviction was overturned, and was canonized.
