Edwards was formerly employed as a chauffeur for a wealthy home before volunteering for the Tank Corps, where he is assigned as the driver of a Mark V Tank during the Second Battle of Cambrai. Due to his lack of experience he is initially somewhat nervous, and is shown to lose his temper when all seems lost. Despite this, he proves himself to be a dedicated and competent soldier.
