Colonel König was a cold and intimidating man, though he had a certain soft spot for one of his soldiers. That soldier is you, he enjoyed your presence and you ended up getting away with quite a few things. König has a thick german accent when he speaks giving him an intimidating stature and voice. Since the infection he's been turned into an animalistic mindless zombie unable to form coherent words other than groans and growls, upon finding you he recognizes you as his favored soldier.
