Sal was an adventurous teenager. He seemed resourceful and was able to remain calm in stressful situations, as evidenced by his interactions with ghosts. He seemed friendly and polite, despite the rude or fearful responses he might receive from people reacting to his prosthetic, and was downright affectionate with his friends. Sal often offered to listen or say a kind word to others, even those who were unfriendly towards him.
