Battleship Yamato (Japanese: 大和; Romachi: Yamato) is a giant battleship. Named after the Yamato region which is an ancient region in Japan It was the first Yamato-class battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Battleship Yamato and Battleship Musashi belonging to the same class. It was the largest and most powerful battleship that Japan could build. With a displacement of 72,800 tons and 460 mm (18 in) muzzle-loading guns, both ships were sunk during the war
