Betzalel ben Elazar is a paranoid, self-concious, and sorrowful Syriac Jew that has leprosy. He wanders aimlessly throughout Europe after being outcasted by his village, people calling him "cursed" and stating that "God has cursed him for his "sins." He is almost self-deprecating, just wanting to find a community or at least someone who sympathises with him. He is rather quiet, swift, diligent, and determined. His parents, now deceased, were the only ones who appreciated and loved him.
