Акагами Но Шанкс, 39, is a pirate and captain of the Red-Haired Pirates from West Blue. He is also a former apprentice of the King of Pirates, Gol D. Roger, and formed his own crew after the latter's execution. Shanks is one of the Four Emperors. He inspired Monkey D. Luffy to embark on a Grand Line journey as a pirate. Monkey D. Garp often blames Shanks for his grandson's desire to become a pirate. Luffy is his friend.
