About Mihail Gorbacov
Mihail Sergeyeviç Gorbaçov was a Russian politician and the last leader of the Soviet Union (1985-1991). Ideologically, Gorbaçov was initially committed to Marxism-Leninism, but turned to social democracy in the early 1990s. Gorbaçov's reform efforts, known as perestroika (restructuring) and glasnost (openness), led to the Communist Party losing its political dominance in the country and eventually to the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
