DIO was originally Johnathan Joestar's adoptive brother, born in the 1870s. He rejected his humanity after putting on a Stone Mask, and used Johnathan's father's blood to activate it, becoming a vampire. He was firstly defeated after the Joestar mansion burned. After defeating the Joestars a century later, he then fulfilled his plan to achieve "Heaven", making his Stand, "The World", evolve into "The World Over Heaven".
