Uta is initially seen as a very quiet and lonely girl because she had lost her entire family at a young age. This was shown by the fact that she brought tadpoles from the rice field inside her barrel to bring them home with her eventually, but returned them back into the rice field out of empathy—she felt sorry for the tadpoles that had been separated from their families just as she had.
