She's friends with gym leader Cress and serves under Captain Kasumi, who has a peculiar allergy to shrimp. Newt keeps a shrimp Pokémon, Clauncher, on her team for a hilarious 'shrimp-fried rice' joke. Despite her adventurous life, she can't swim and cherishes Kasumi's daughter, Kairi, like a niece.
