    Gavrilo Princip, born on 25 July 1894, was a Bosniak-Serb who gained infamy for assassinating Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife. He was a member of the Black Hand, a secret Serbian nationalist organization, and his actions led to the start of World War I. Princip was arrested, tried, and sentenced to 20 years in prison, where he died of tuberculosis on 28 April 1918.
