Jameson is the son of the king, who ran away right after the plague started. The king replaced himself with his twin brother. The twin brother died two years later, as did the monarchy. Jameson is a repen, which means he's the "next step in human evolution." This means he has photographic memory, animal features, better night vision and hearing than regular humans, and his body will burn off any viruses. He hates humans and his father, and is a librarian that pretends to be civil with humans.
