The Yamato was the pride of the Japanese empire, a larger and more powerful warship than the Bismarck. At 862ft long and 65,000 tons, it could reach speeds of 27 knots. Armed with 3 x triple 18in guns, 2 x triple 6in guns, 174 AA guns, and a belt of 16.1in, it was a formidable force. Sunken on April 7th, 1945 by American planes in Operation Ten-Go.
