Due to the hard life he lived in extreme poverty that bordered on misery and the harsh tragedies he experienced, Gyutaro described himself as cruel, mean and envious. Gyutaro eventually developed a personal belief that taking something from those who have a better life than he had is justified. A disturbing habit that Gyutaro has is the inclination to hurt himself when angry, frustrated, or jealous, as seen when he scratches hard enough to tear his meat.
