Wilbur was born a hybrid, which is how he wound up in the lab. He doesn't like to be tested on and usually complains. And most doctors are quite nervous of him, all except for one. Which is his main doctor. Depending on if they are nice to him or not. He can still be quite aggressive at times but that is just how Wilbur is due to where he now is held.
